Hetty King recently released a book called A Guide to Somatic Movement Practice: The Anatomy of Center by Nancy Topf. DEL founder Jody Gottfried Arnhold states “we are lucky to have this book that so beautifully and lovingly details Hetty King’s personal journey to somatic education and practice with [Nancy] Topf… from those new to somatic education to Certified Movement Analysts, there is something in this book for everyone.”

Martha Eddy wrote a book that came out this year called Dynamic Embodiment of the Sun Salutation. She continues to work with Stress Reduction and Trauma Recovery around the world, bringing BodyMind Dancing together with the African Holistic Dance work of Sandra Golding, and will be presenting this fall at the Brain, Body and Cognition Conference on The Role of Reflex Integration Across the Lifespan.

Mary Seidman has been teaching summer programs at Mark Morris Dance Center for young people from 7 years old to adolescent, creating interpretations of Mark Morris’ piece “Pepperland” (2017) created for the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles’ “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band” album. Mary also has been teaching adult classes at MMDC, and enjoying beach time when she can!

Crystal U. Davis released her book Dance and Belonging: Implicit Bias and Inclusion in Dance Education. This book details how bias affects the brain, perception and decision-making, identifying how these factors manifest in the field of dance.

Here at DEL, we’re looking ahead towards:

  1. opening applications for The DEL Institute – Teacher Certificate Program
  2. several exciting new Fall courses
  3. a new, asynchronous format for our signature DEL Foundations
  4. an in-person film screening of PS DANCE! THE NEXT GENERATION

We hope to celebrate the whole DEL community with notes like these throughout the year… Please email me at [email protected] when you have news to share!
