Family Dance is a relationship-based class that empowers children and their caregivers to connect through play, movement, and collaborative dance-making. Rooted in the Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) model, this approach supports social-emotional growth, creativity, and empathy while honoring each child’s voice and agency.
Through guided, child-centered cueing and intentional lesson planning, DEL Facilitators offer opportunities for families to explore relational connections and experience joyful moments of self-expression through dance. Multimodal, developmentally appropriate strategies create an inclusive environment where participants feel safe to dance, play, and discover together.
In this interactive workshop, participants will observe—or join—a live Family Dance class with children ages 3–5 and their caregivers. An interactive workshop will follow, offering practical tools, including lesson planning, teaching strategies, and administrative considerations for facilitating family dance in schools, studios, and community settings.
Ideal for early childhood dance educators, teaching artists, and community leaders, this workshop provides a rich foundation for launching family dance classes that build trust, strengthen relationships, and foster a sense of belonging through dance.
