NYC DOE Early Childhood Dance Educators Workshop

The course spans 5 weeks, Tuesdays at 3-5:30pm: July 7, 14, 21, 28 and August 4 

The 92nd Street Y DEL Early Childhood Dance Curriculum encourages learning through play, providing a stimulating, multi-sensory and nurturing community for diverse young learners to discover their innate movement capacity and artistic voice.

Participants in this online interactive course will gain hands-on learning experience in creating developmentally appropriate dance lessons and movement activities for 3K and Pre-K age children in the classroom. This course will cover the following topics:

1. Developmental stages of early childhood, developmental patterns and the sensory system.
2. Basics of early childhood dance lesson planning – using the DEL model lesson plan to make a dance about anything.
3. Introduction to Laban Movement Analysis vocabulary as a springboard for dance learning and lesson plan organization.
4. Strategies for effective teaching, self regulation and assessment through dance, and collaborative lesson planning with peers.
