Dance with DEL as we unite together for our first in-person event since winter 2020!

Join Leonardo Sandoval, Co-Director of Music from the Sole, and Taryn Vander Hoop, Co-Founder of Summation Dance and DEL Facilitator, for a DEL Movement Sentence Choir. By the end of this afternoon workshop, you’ll have explored the DEL model and created a brand new piece with the artists that will be performed and live-streamed for your friends and family. Plus, you’ll be featured in a dance film edited and produced by Nel Shelby Productions. Come perform, make a film, and experience a collaborative creative process!

This special event will take place on 92Y’s covered rooftop. Please dress appropriately for the elements. Sneakers, sunblock, and sunglasses are encouraged.

Inspiration to Design: Dance Lesson and Curriculum Planning

In this six-module asynchronous course, participants delve into the key components of lesson plan and curriculum design using the DEL framework.

Participants learn how to develop scaffolded, developmentally appropriate, and standards-based dance learning activities that draw connections to dance artistry, theme-based learning, and arts integration. Participants learn how to design dynamic lessons that align student learning objectives with content and assessments. By the end of the course, participants will write an original six lesson dance unit to share with their peers. This course includes one-on-one coaching for students taking the course for credit (DEL CERT & SUNY/ESC) from veteran DEL faculty, Ann Biddle and​ Catherine Gallant. This course is a terrific opportunity to strengthen your lesson planning and curriculum design.

One of DEL’s most popular offerings, DEL FUNdamentals is an introductory course that provides an overview of the key components of the DEL model of teaching dance to diverse populations.

DEL encourages active movement exploration, collaborative dance making, peer engagement and self-reflection in a laboratory learning environment. DEL FUNdamentals embraces multiple perspectives and is designed to meet the unique needs of each participant.

The 92nd Street Y DEL Dance for Early Childhood Curriculum encourages learning through play, providing a stimulating, multi-sensory and nurturing community for diverse young learners to discover their innate movement capacity.

Participants in this course will gain experience in creating developmentally appropriate dance lessons and activities for children ages 3-7 years old. Interactive and participatory, this course will cover the following topics: developmentally appropriate lessons and content for early childhood, developmental patterns and the sensory system, games and short activities, basics of early childhood dance lesson planning, LMA vocabulary as a springboard for dance learning and lesson plan organization, strategies for effective teaching, working with children with disabilities, teaching children online, using video prompts, and collaborative lesson planning with peers. The 2022 DEL Dance for Early Childhood course will take place over Zoom in a synchronous model.

DEL Tracing Footsteps: Diverse Voices Through Dance History

In this weeklong intensive, participants will delve into the DEL Tracing Footsteps curriculum, created in response to the need to provide free high-quality remote learning dance education instruction to all NYC public school students K-12.

Participants will be introduced to the Tracing Footsteps year 2 curriculum which focuses on two distinct dance styles: 1) Salsa Stories and, 2) Join the Cypher – A Hip-Hop Experience. In this course, participants will receive an overview of each module, explore components of the grade band-specific dance units, engage in culturally responsive pedagogy practices, identify innovative instructional practices, and apply the DEL model to collaborative dance making and lesson plan design. Through embodied practice, collective inquiry, and exposure to a wide range of resources (guest dance artists and facilitators, video tutorials, and visually stimulating teaching materials), participants will learn how to bring dance history to life in their dance classrooms.
